Egyptology and the Occult: The Enigmatic Friendship of Aleister Crowley and Battiscombe Gunn

Lecture by Steve Vinson, 3:30 p.m., August 18, 2014, in the Slocum Room of the Lilly Library. Vinson will discuss the mysterious friendship between Battiscombe Gunn, one of the most esteemed Egyptologists of the first half of the Twentieth Century, with Aleister Crowley, the most notorious and controversial British occultist of the same period – a man who called himself the “Beast 666,” and who was known to the British tabloid press as the “wickedest man in the world.”
